This assignment is the last assignment for this subject and we have to do a 2500~3000 words research paper for this assignment. This assignment is a group assignment which we needed to formed a group with 4 members. So, I have formed a group with Cheong Siew Leong, Lee Yuan June and Kelvin Chiew. Then, our research topic is coffee shops, and we have to compare and contrast them in our research paper. Moreover, the coffee shops we have chosen for our research is the coffee shops from Penang and Pahang, and then we started to do the research about the coffee shops and working on the research paper. After we have done with our research paper, we also have to record a video for our presentation for the research paper. For the presentation, we are given a task for our topic, which is to speak about the social and economic roles of the traditional coffee shop in Malaysia. Our audience is comprised of a group of people from mixed ages and ethnic backgrounds who are here as part of UTAR’s free adult lifelong learning programme.  How will you try to interest them in your topic and persuade them? Which argumentative strategy will you use? Use samples from your research essay in this presentation. After we have recorded the videos, we burned it into a disk and submitted to our lecturer.

From this assignment, I have learned how to do a face to face research with the peoples. Also, I have improved my communication skills through this project because we need to ask the question and communicate with the peoples we wanted to do the research. Moreover, I have improved my presentation skill too via presenting our research. Lastly, I have perform a very good teamwork with my group members during the time we work on our research paper and presentation.

English 2 - Class Assignment 3 (Debate)

In this assignment, we have to form a group with 2~3 member to work on this assignment. This assignment is about the debate skills of us. So, I have formed a group with my partner Lee Yuan June, and we got a topic for our debate which is Sabah and Sarawak deserve to get more from the federal government than what they are currently receiving, and we are against the topic that have given to us. For this topic, our opponent is Kabil Kumar, Preyashini Murugan and Melika, we performed our best during the debate.
From this assignment, I have improved my debate skill and able to do an effective research on the project. Also, I am able to give a very good teamwork with my partner and receive more understanding about our country.

English 2 - Assignment 2 (Compare and Contrast Essay)

This assignment is the second class assignment and this is an individual essay with not less than 800 words. In this assignment, we have to write an compare and contrast essay about the movie we have chosen for the essay, and the movie we can choose is only either historical movie or musical movie. Then, the type of movie I have chosen for my second individual essay is historical movie, and the 2 movie I have chosen is "300" and "Pearl Harbor". These two movie is a historical movie about war. So, I have compare the three differences of these 2 movies which is the differences of the reason of the war started, types of war and the setting from the movies.

From this assignment, I have improved my writing skills in essay and able to do a effective research on the project. Also, I have improved my knowledge about the history of the war.

Effective Public Communication - Assignment 2 (Illustration and Script)

In this assignment, we have to form a group of 5 member to work on this assignment, and we are required to choose any of the topics from the subject and explain the concepts in script or comic form. So, I have formed a group with Renee Lim, Tan Ceng Weng, Koay Wei Jia and Lee Yuan June, and the topic we have chosen is chapter 9- Interpersonal Communication and we will explain the concepts in script form. After we have done with the script, we have to explain individually to the lecturer to prove that we are understand the topic and the concepts we applied into the script.

Effective Public Communication - Individual Essay

This assignment is an individual work, the students have to write an 800-1000 words essay according to the topic they have chosen. There are 4 topics for us to choose and I have chosen the forth topic for my individual essay. The topic I have chosen for my individual essay are about even when nonverbal cues are used in text-based messages, communicating online can still lead to misunderstandings. Look at the differences between communicating online and communicating face-to-face and examine how vocal cues are important to communication. After that, I started my research on my topic and start doing my essay which is about the differences between online communication and face to face communication.

Introduction to Business - Final project (Charity Drive)

In this project, we have to formed a group with 5 member to start up and run a business, with the purpose of donating the profits to a charitable cause. So, I have formed the group with Lee Yuan June, Kelvin Chiew, Muhammad Hafidz, and Naajid Nseem, and Lee Yuan June has been selected to become the leader of our group and Naajid Nseem will be the accountant of our business project. After we have formed a group of 5 member and knowing all the need, we started to discuss in group what product we wanted to sell during the charity drive and the sponsors. After the group discussion, we decided to sell phone cases, dolls and accessories for girls during the charity drive, and everyone have to find a sponsors for this project so that we can cover up the cost of the products we sell. So, Kelvin has found a supplier and sponsors for phone cases and I have found sponsors and supplier for phone cases, dolls and accessories. After we have done with everything, we started our business at the day we start our charity drive. After the charity drive event, our group have donated the money to SMJK Yu Hua Kajang. The reasons we choose this organization is because they needed fees for building their new library and library is an important source for every students. After all, we are coming out with a final report for our final project. In conclusion, I have learned how to manage a small business effectively and how to start a business. Also, I have improved my communication skills during the time I finding supplier and sponsors for the charity drive event.

Introduction to Business - Project 1 (Business Proposal)

In this project, we are required to form a group in 3 member to work on this project. So, I have formed a group with Lee Yuan June and Kelvin Chiew. The tasks in this project is we have to start a business as a company and come out with a business proposal, during the submission date we have to present the business we start in the class. So, me and my group that have been formed to work on this project started thinking the business that we wanted to start. After a meeting, we decided to start a business with the company name ECO-mobile, who selling eco product such as eco phone case and other device that is related to mobile phone. Then, we start working on our proposal and the presentation slide. From this project, I have learned how to start a business in partnership and greatly improved my knowledge about business. Also, I have improved my presentation skill from the presentation that we need to present our business in front of my classmates.

Introduction to Business - Introduction

During my second semester in Taylor University Lakeside Campus, I have learned a lot of business skills through the subject Introduction to Business by the lecturer Mr. Chang Jau Ho. Also, I understand what is a business after studying this subject, and I have learned how to start a business in many ways and how to manage a business and the employees in our life. Besides that, I also understand the development of the marketing strategies through this subject.

In this subject, the subject include 6 lecture topics which is Topic 1-Introduction to Business, Topic 2- Starting a Small Business, Topic 3-Business Ethics and Social Responsibility, Topic 4-Managing a Business, Topic 5-Managing Employees and Topic 6-Developing Marketing Strategies. From the 6 chapters of the subject Introduction to Business, my favorite chapter might be the forth topic, which is Managing a Business. This topic is about how to manage a business, explaining the management process of a business, how to run a business and how to achieve our goal in business. The reason I like this topic is because it teach me how to achieve a goal and how to avoid failure in business. For an example, the subtopic which is the management process, it shows the management process of a business has 4 components which is Plan, Organize, Lead and Control. The components in the management process of a business is very important, because if we are fail to plan on something, then we are planning to fail. Besides that, I also learned the different types of organizational structure of a business, it help us to manage a business more easily and effectively. Moreover, I also learned how to lead a group of peoples to achieve our goal and how to control our own business.

After all, the least favorite topic in the subject is the first topic, Introduction to Business. This topic is about the explanation of a business such as the types of business, capitalism/free market, functions of a business, major forms of business and how the environmental factors affecting a business. The reason why this topic is least favorite for me is because the topic just explaining what is a business and the types of business, but anyway, I also improved my knowledge about business through this topic.

In conclusion, the most useful topic for me is the second topic, starting a small business. The reason I say this topic is useful is because it teach us how to start a business in our future. Without this topic, I have no idea how to start a business if I wanted to start a business in my future. Even though this topic is not my most favorite topic, but it is the most useful topic in this subject.

Mathematics project 2

In this project, we are given a task to work on our own survey questions and the title is based on our own opinion. So, we have form a group of 4 person which is me, Cheong Siew Leong, Lee Yuan June and Kelvin Chiew to work on this project. Our title for the survey is Laptop survey, which is to understand what is the peoples need for their laptop and what they want for their laptop. So, we have prepared 150 survey form with 20 questions in each of the form, and we started our survey in the campus. After we have done with our survey, we calculate the total number of the answer from the survey form and start on our report. In the report, we have used Statistics to shows the answer of the peoples chosen. Also, we calculated the number of answer with Mode, Median and Mean to shows a more accurate value. In conclusion, I learned how to do an effective survey in my future and I have learned how to analyse and tabulate the result of our survey. Lastly, I have improve my skill on using Statistics in my future.

Mathematics project 1

In this project, we are given a question paper and to solve the problem in a group of 3~5 member. We have used different calculation, laws and theories to solve the question and we need to produce a model of the object which is shown in the question paper. For the calculation, we have to calculate the total surface area and the volume of the object, so, we used the formula for the surface area of cylinder which is the area of curved surface+ area of 2 circular surface (2πrh +2π(r^2)). Also, for the volume of the cylinder, we used the formula for the volume of cylinder which is the base area x height (2πh(r^2). Then, we used the theories, Pythagoras Theorem to determine the circumference of the object with the formula of c=/a^2+b^2. Next, we used theories from trigonometry to determine the angle of sector which is cosX=Adjacent X/ Hypotenuse X, we are also used tried other solution such as Law of Cosine to determine the angle of sector which is a^2=2r^2-2r^2cosX. Lastly, we are also used the Sines Rule/Law of Sines to solve the problems sinY/y=sinX/x or y/sinY=x/sinX. The pictures below shows our calculations for the project and the model we made. In conclusion, I have learned how to apply the theories of mathematics on some object and I have improve my mathematics calculation through this project. Also, I have trained myself to avoid the mistakes from mathematics calculation.

Project 3b (Art Installation- Street Lamp)

In this project, everyone are required to come out with an idea of their own model, and the lectures will choose some of the model among us to create a maximum height of 2 meter model. the owner of the model that have been chosen have to form a group of 4 person to help him to create the 2 meter height model. So, I have been invited by my leader who named Gennieve Lee, and my member are Cheah Ee Von and Cheong Siew Leong. Before we start our work for the project, we have several meeting to discuss the important matters of the project, especially the materials. So, after we have purchase the materials we started to building the model. The picture below shown that the completion of our project. From this project,  I have been able to apply basic principles and elements of design and drawing as a language to visualise and to communicate ideas. Also, I have learned how to communicate and perform a good teamwork with my group member, and during the time we build the model, I have learned how to analyse the problem of the model and how to make the lighting.

Project 3A (site analysis)

In this project, we are required to complete this group project with our previous group which is a group with Phang June Ee, Tan Cang Weng, Yong Chang Theng, Tai Chia Chuan and Zachery. So, the project need us to find a site and start to analyse the site we have chosen. Analyse the site mean we have to do the plan of our site, biological attributes, opportunities and physical threats, physical attributes and so on. After that, we went to the site we have chosen everyweek, which is the area in front of Taylor's University lake. After we finish analyse it, our leader divided the work and we start working on our report. The pictures below shows our report of our site analysis. From this project, I have learned how to analysis the site and I understand that how important  for us to analysis the site before building something on it. Also, I have learned how to do a better research and I have improved my presentation skill during the group presentation in class.

Culture and Civilization Project 3 (Postcard Series)

In this project, also known as the final project for the subject culture and civilization, we are required to come up with a site route to identify the chosen route. This route has to be related to the theme and concept that has been generated. The final outcome for this project would be a postcard series. We are also required to research on postcard designs and produce a packaging that would compliment the final postcard series design. So, the route that I have chosen for my project is "The Culture of Chinese Wedding", I had took a lot of photo about the culture of the Chinese wedding and choose five photo from the photos I had taken so far. I had took these photos from my sister's wedding and I have use them to explain how was the culture of the Chinese wedding. From this project, I have learned how to take a good photo and know how to make a postcard. Also, I have learned more about the Chinese culture especially the wedding in Chinese culture.  In this project, we are required to do a individual work which is to create a journal of your character that would demonstrate your understanding of the chosen elements from the video we filmed in a group. Also, our group project which is part 1 in this project, we are required to propose a play in video format from a specific civilization.We are to select an event for the play based on themes such as sociology, engineering, archaeology or myth and legends of the civilization.We are also need to conduct a thorough research of the characteristics of the events chosen and perform the findings to the class in any form of presentations deemed best. So, the event or title our lecture given to us is "The Battle of Red Cliff", one of the popular war in the story of "Three Kingdom". After that, my group member and I started to work for the video and group project. In this project, I learned how to do a research and I had learned more about the battle of the Red Cliff. Also, I have gained more knowledge of the history of the Three Kingdom.

Culture and Civilization Project 1 (The Rise of Civilization)

In this project, we are required to find a member to do the project, which is 2 person in a group, so I have find a member named Ong Kok Sheng to group with me. After that, our lecture had also given us the title for our project which is Vietnam, an ancient Vietnam. So, we started to do some research about ancient Vietnam. After we had done with the research and we collected enough information for ancient Vietnam, we start doing our work which explaining the history of ancient Vietnam. In conclusion, I have learn how to develop skills in gathering information and synthesizing relevant information into a concise presentation and this project make me learn more about the history of Vietnam. In this project, we are given a task to draw an object by using technical drawing skill, we were allowed to draw any object for our project. Also, we are required to use ruler, A3 paper and Artline pen to draw the objects we have chosen. So, the object I have chose for this project are a wardrobe and a bottle. During the time I start drawing the wardrobe, I have to measure the height and width of the wardrobe so I can draw it on the paper accurately with the scale, and I have to the same thing to the bottle too. After I finished measure the wardrobe and bottle, I start drawing the top view, bottom view, side view/ elevation, sections and the details of the objects that I had chosen for the project. After I finished drawing, I also have to show the scale of the object and my drawing. The pictures above shows my work that I have done in this project. I'm quite interesting in this project, because I have learned how to use technical drawing skills in my future and this project are a little bit challenging for me.
